Dr. Gamini  Ranasinghe graduated from the University Of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2004. His Bachelor of Art degree specialized in Archaeology then completed the Diploma in Archaeology in 2005 and Master of Science in Archaeology 2008 from the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology Research of university of Kelaniya Sri Lanka. He obtained his Doctorate from Xiamen University of China in 2013 for the Maritime Archaeology.

Dr. Gamini Ranasinghe jointed as a temporary lecture in 2005 then appointed as a probationary lecture in 2006 and now working as a senior lecturer in Archaeology in the Department of History and Archaeology of this university since 2011.

He has been done research on Prehistory of Sri Lanka and Ethnology as well as intangible heritage in Nuwarakalaviya, North Central Province. Now he is investigating on Maritime cultural interaction between Sri Lanka and China including Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean.  

He has been teaching for undergraduate courses such as, field Archaeology, Traditional Irrigation system of Sri Lanka, Ancient technology of Sri Lanka and Maritime and Underwater Archaeology.

He is the senior treasurer of the Society of History and Archaeology from 2013, Editor in chief of the Vidarani annual magazine of the department, University coordinator of the National Development exhibition of Sri Lanka. Dr.Gamini Ranasinghe has obtained memberships from Council of Archaeology of Sri Lanka, Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka and Advisory board of the mayor of Anuradhapura municipal council since 2010.
